All volunteers must sign up to be a Florida State Parks volunteer.

Remote or In-Person Positions:

Grants support:

I want to help make projects happen! Help us locate and write grant funding opportunities. This volunteer position is remote, supporting the Friends of John Pennekamp online and by phone. We’re looking for folks who are willing to search for grant funding opportunities, identify grants we are eligible for, upload the information to a Google-based system, and prepare documents and reports. This volunteer position is critical for helping us fund large initiatives and projects.

Content Writer:

I want to write for the blog and social media! This volunteer position is perfect for somebody who wants to create content to go on the website or social media, whether it be Instagram photos or a write up about a favorite spot in the park.

Committee member:

I want to join a committee! The available committees are: Events, Marketing, and Fundraising. Take your passion and help us grow! Committee members support projects and events and help make the parks a better place for all. Committee members must be a member of the Friends of John Pennekamp.

In-Person Positions:

Membership Support:

I want to help members! Help send packets of membership information and cards to our friends. This volunteer position is perfect for somebody local, who wants to make membership packets and place them in the mail when we receive a new member.

Events support:

I want to work events! This volunteer position is called upon when we host events at the park like World Ocean Day or Halloween, but also for Outreach Events like Ocean Fest and other community events. This position is perfect for somebody who can volunteer a few hours on a weekend and help engage visitors in activities and tell them about the park.

Visitor Center and Aquarium Docent:

I want to teach people about the Florida Keys! Our Visitor Center is looking for docents to work in the building once per week. This position is perfect for local volunteers who enjoy connecting with visitors from around the world, can help keep the building clean and safe for visitors and aquarium residents, and tell people about the Keys and the animals and plants that call it home!

Volunteer Toll Collector:

I want to be the park’s first impression! Our Ranger Station is in need of a volunteer to work one day per week from 7:30AM to 4:30PM. This position is perfect for somebody who enjoys talking to everyone who comes into the park, is comfortable with a register, and enjoys a fast-paced environment. Duties may include checking in campers, collecting money, answering phone calls, and more!

Aquarium Maintenance Volunteer:

I want to take care of the animals! Taking care of the animals means taking care of the systems. We’re looking for people who can help with plumbing and electrical to support the animals as well as people who can help with water changes and food preparation. This volunteer position is best for a local person who can commit to volunteering a set schedule every week. Come get to know our aquarium residents!
