enhance remote viewing and visiting accessibility that help Our conservation and preservation efforts
The Friends of John Pennekamp has partnered with View into the Blue to design and install an underwater camera system adjacent to a section of the coral reef system located within the park. This camera will provide educational opportunities for students to participate in K-12 and university coursework, internships and projects associated with the park; enhance remote viewing and visiting accessibility of the underwater seascape on a global level; and promote and enhance conservation and preservation efforts focused on the health of the reef system and the associated aquatic and plant life.
In addition to the camera system, a donation has been requested from The Ocean Blueprint to supplement the viewing equipment with a newly developed state of the art ocean sensor generating continuous real time monitoring of sea conditions including salinity, temperature, currents and clarity. This monitor at Pennekamp will be one of only five currently in place in oceans around the world.
